May Musings
May is usually an eventful month. For the past few years, May has signaled the end of a chapter and the start of a new one. The classic example is last May when I graduated pharmacy school, solo traveled around East Asia, and moved to a new city for my first post-grad job the month after.
My point is… May is usually crazy.
This year, May has taught me to be patient with change and persistent with challenges. I had a tough season with the job hunt, and I learned to be kinder to myself. I learned how to accept rejections and pick myself up.
I also reflected on my outlets and my priorities in life. While I always knew this about myself, I found that spending time in nature and away from the hustle and bustle of a city can be revitalizing. My career and education have always been a huge priority in my life — perhaps some of it stemming from the pressure I put on myself as an Asian American female and daughter of immigrant parents — but I found myself reminded that there are more important things in life like health and well-being.
May was a month of growth. I ran my second half-marathon, attended another work trip, and explored a couple of new cities and states. I celebrated the small victories, gave myself grace for the little losses, and learned to move on.
